Planned Giving

  • The Mead Public Library Foundation accepts and appreciates gifts of any size as well as bequests or trusts for its Endowment Fund. Gifts may be earmarked for special projects or materials.

Here are some options for your consideration:

Cash - The most direct way to support the Foundation is through a cash gift.

Marketable Securities - A charitable gift of individual stocks bonds, mutual funds or ETF’s, etc. that the Foundation may utilize for current income needs. The use of low cost basis securities will reduce and or remove long term gain taxable consequences.

Charitable Estate Planning - The Foundation would be named as one of the beneficiaries of a portion of your assets. Other charitable trust options may be done during your lifetime or after death.

Life Insurance - Transfer of ownership of a paid-up life insurance policy to the Foundation. The Foundation can cash in the policy now, or maintain it and receive the death benefits later. Another option is that you may transfer the ownership of an existing life insurance policy to the Foundation and continue the premium payments. You would then be eligible for an annual charitable deduction for those premiums.

IRA Beneficiary Designation - Use the Foundation as the beneficiary or one of the beneficiaries of your IRA to avoid those unwanted and potentially exorbitant Federal and State Income tax consequences.

IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) Direct Donations - Donate your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA directly to the Foundation to avoid those unwanted and potentially exorbitant Federal and State Income tax consequences.

Before making a contribution to the Mead Public Library Foundation we recommend that you consult with your attorney or accountant. The Foundation is a 509(a)(3) organization established to invest in, receive, hold, use and dispose of all property, real or personal, as may be necessary or desirable to carry out the interest of the Mead Public Library. All contributions to it are deductible to the extent allowable by law (501(c)(3)).
